I offer a range of creative upholstery and re-upholstery services for private domestic and commercial clients across Cornwall and the South West. From sofas to dining room chairs to footstools, and from sympathetic period restorations to striking new contemporary ideas.

Traditional Upholstery & Re-Upholstery

I specialise in traditional artisan upholstery, the basic techniques of which have remained unchanged for centuries. Traditional upholstery involves a range of craft skills rooted in different historical periods; using natural fibres like horsehair, wool, hessian and felt, applied with tacks, twine and hand sewing. It takes time, which is reflected in the cost, but creates a beautiful, comfortable finish that should last a generation.

Modern Upholstery

Modern upholstery techniques are ideal for the smooth, contemporary styles typical of post 1950’s furniture. It’s generally quicker, and involves a range of synthetic, pre-formed and pre-treated materials, including rubber foam, polyester wadding and elastic webbing. The elements come in layers allowing for faster application and more flexible shapes. A mix of modern and traditional techniques can offer durability while keeping costs down.

Recovering

Sometimes the frame and stuffing of a well-made piece of furniture can outlast the original fabric. Recovering involves removing the top layer of fabric, checking and replacing the filling where needed, and then recovering with a new fabric of your choice - breathing new life into a worn-out favourite or simply updating it to match new decor.

Soft Furnishings

Need a cushion to match? As well as furniture upholstery, I recover cushions, scatters and bolsters. I also make bespoke box cushions and headboards designed to your requirements.

Fabulous Fabrics

If you don’t already have something in mind, I can offer advice on fabric choices and materials, and help plan the ideal colour and texture palette for your piece and it’s setting. There’s a huge range of high-quality fabrics available, including those from smaller, exclusive designers. I can bring samples to compare in your home, along with trimmings and finishes to compliment your choice.
